In February, this month of Valentine’s Day, we may gift those we love with cards, flowers or chocolates.  But the greatest gift we can give our relationships is mindfulness.  The practice of mindfulness slows us down and increases our awareness, allowing us to pay attention without judgment, which benefits  our relationships – both personal and business – in two important ways:  1. It gives us the ability to delay our emotional responses. How to do it:  Stay aware, so you are able to notice when an emotional sensation arises.  Become conscious of your breath.  This pause gets you out of autopilot and creates a moment to discern whether your speech or action would be harmful or beneficial.  Then you can respond, rather than react, and not be yanked around by your emotions. 2. It gives us the ability to be better listeners and develop empathy. Take a moment for yourself and provide the pampering nourishment your skin deserves with this easy At-Home facial. 1. Cleanse your face and neck with your favorite Golden Door cleanser (Hydrating Cleansing Milk, Soothing Cleansing Foam, Balancing Cleansing Gel). 2. Create a steam bath for your face by placing a pot of boiling water in your kitchen sink. (For a special touch, add chamomile tea leaves or a drop of lavender). Create a tent over your head and the pot with a large towel. Be sure to keep your face at least eighteen inches from the water. Allow the steam to bathe your face for three to five minutes. Ever have that feeling that no matter how often you exercise you just cannot see a change in your body? If you do you, are not alone. Many people work out 5-6 days per week and still hold on to stubborn body fat.  It can be a very discouraging to feel that you do not possess the power to change yourself for the better but, there is a way. Write down your exercises for two weeks and at the end of day 14 look to see how many times you’ve worked out to at high intensity. Working out at least a few days per week at a higher level is the key to illicit change. Remember, there is a difference between exercising and sweating. Warm Flourless Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Coulis and Candied Orange Peel

Normally a flourless chocolate cake is made with lots of butter, chocolate and eggs-undeniably delicious, but far too many calories and fat for a Golden Door dessert. This version is undeniably delicious and guilt-free! Use good quality chocolate with 60-70% cacao for this cake. For the Cakes: 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped 1 large egg 2 very ripe bananas ½ C mashed yam ¼ C honey 1 TB grated orange peel 3 large egg whites Pinch kosher salt 1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Spray 8 four ounce ramekins with cooking spray until well coated and place them on a baking sheet. 2. Place a bowl over a saucepan filled with a couple inches of water; the water should not touch the bowl. Place the chocolate in the bowl and let stand until the chocolate is shiny and soft to the touch, about 10 minutes. Stir with a rubber spatula …
